Afghan DPs repatriation suspended temporarily

30 Jun, 2007

The United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) has temporarily suspended the voluntary repatriation of Afghans throughout NWFP after heavy rains and floods damaged several bridges between Peshawar and Torkhum border.
Afghans wishing to return Afghanistan through the Hayatabad Voluntary Repatriation Centre (VRC) in Peshawar should not move until further notice, a statement issued here on Friday said.
Hayatabad VRC would not process anyone for departure until the roads and bridges are repaired and fit for travel. A separate announcement will be made once the VRC resumes services. In Balochistan, the Baleli VRC on the Quetta-Chaman Road will remain open daily except Thursdays and Fridays.
