President's speeches to political gatherings not proper: CEC tells MMA delegation

Chief Election Commissioner Qazi Muhammad Farooq was quoted on Saturday as saying in a meeting with MMA leader that political speeches by President Musharraf are not proper. The CEC made the remarks during his meeting with a 4-member MMA delegation and later in his interaction with reporters, TV channels reported.
He assured that reservations of all the political parties pertaining to electoral lists will be removed. According to a private TV channel MMA leader Liaqat Baloch delivered a letter from MMA President Qazi Hussain Ahmad to the CEC.
The letter expressed reservations regarding preparations of voters' lists and stated that 30 percent eligible voters whose names had existed in the old lists has not been included in the new lists for the forthcoming general elections.
The letter asked inclusion of all persons having National Identity Cards in the voter lists. The CEC said that all complaints would be redressed and steps taken according to law and Constitution. Later talking to reporters he said that an election code of conduct would be prepared at appropriate time.
