Solid waste management: Iranian firm to invest $20 million

An Iranian firm has expressed its willingness to invest 20 million dollars in the solid waste management sector of the metropolis. This was revealed by Managing Director of Mobaraiz Group Mehmood Yaun during a meeting with City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal here on Wednesday, said a press release of the city government.
The City Nazim welcomed the Iranian investment, and said the group should start study of the sector and work out the feasibility. Mobaraiz Group has vast experience of working in the solid waste management sector of Iran and Saudi Arabia and has an intention to use the same in Karachi, said the release. Mehmood Yaun told the City Nazim that the 20 million-dollar investment, which would be increased later, would be made in phases.
He said in the first phase, 2,000-ton garbage would be lifted from residential areas, which would be transferred to GTS and then to landfill sites in packed vehicles.
The Group had already started study on solid waste in the city and the complete feasibility would be presented within the next few days, said Yaun.-PR
