FTO disposes over 72 percent cases

Federal Tax Ombudsman (FTO) has disposed of 622 complaints filed by the taxpayers against total 858 applications during 2007. According to FBR data issued on Wednesday, out of total 9,749 complaints filed during 2000-2007, the FTO has disposed of 9,478, showing a pending of 269 complaints.
In 2007, FTO office settled 622 complaints against 859, showing that a large number of taxpayers are still approaching the FTO against the taxation system. Despite introduction of self-assessment regime, taxpayers are facing problems in the field formations.
The FTO settled 1315 complaints in 2006 against total institution of 1,347, showing a balance of 32 complaints. A total of 1,447 complaints were disposed of during 2005 against a total of 1,449 complaints. The FTO office decided all 1010 and 1681 complaints during 2004 and 2003 respectively. Similarly, 1549 complaints were disposed of in 2002; 1,782, 2001 and 72 complaints were decided in 2000.
