Punjab Minister for Housing & Urban Development, Syed Raza Ali Gillani, has directed the high ranking officers of parks & horticulture authority (PHA) to depute teams of experts immediately to check the strength of existing billboards and neon signs in the city and submit a comprehensive report within a week.
In a letter to DG (PHA), Gillani also asked to remove such billboards and neon signs immediately which are unable to face the force of wind or thunderstorms and directed the concerned companies to upgrade the standard of billboards.
He said that this decision was made to avoid any loss of life and property. He said that protection of citizens' life and property is the government's foremost priority and no slackness and negligence would be tolerated in this regard.
Syed Raza Ali Gillani said that this task should be completed on war footings and quick action will be taken in the light of reports of the experts. He said that a warning should also be given to the concerned staff that in case of concurrence of any mishap due to these billboards, the responsible will be dealt with an iron hand. He directed to inform the concerned institutions through media in this regard.
