The average price of Bangladesh teas fell 4.71 percent to 81.52 taka ($1.18) per kg on poor quality at the weekly auction on Tuesday, brokers said.
Nearly 1.56 million kg were sold at an average price of 81.52 taka per kg, down 4.03 taka from the previous sale, with a withdrawal percentage of 1.28, said a statement by National Brokers Limited, the country's largest tea broker.
Buyers from Pakistan and Bangladesh participated in the weekly auction. "Despite very strong demand, prices declined due to lower quality," said a broker. The withdrawal percentage was the lowest among all the 11 weekly sales of the current tea growing season (April-March) held so far.
