Former Speaker of National Assembly Ellahi Bux Soomro has stressed the need of promoting the reading culture in the society. He said this while addressing a book launching ceremony written by veteran engineer Professor Dr Wasiuddin Ahmed Zuberi under the title of "Tribology: Science of Lubrication, Friction and Water" here on Saturday.
The book was published by Institution of Engineers Pakistan (IEP) aimed at raising awareness among the young engineers and technicians about the precise use of lubrication in the machines. Ellahi Bux Soomro, who also served as Chairman of IEP in 1970s, pointed out that our society was facing problem of dearth of reading.
It is only reading, that enhance our knowledge and consequently drive the society towards the development, he said adding without reading we would be nowhere in present knowledge-based world.
Former Speaker lauded the research work of Dr Wasiuddin and termed it good omen in transferring knowledge to younger generations. He said Professor Wasiuddin's book would prove helpful for engineers and technicians who had to handle maintenance of machines in all fields. Use of petroleum lubrication is mandatory for every machine otherwise its performance would reduce gradually.
Underlining the importance of the book, he opined that every engineer should know which lubrication was right to be used for any specified machine. The book "Tribology: Science of Lubrication, Friction and Water" is very useful for this purpose.
He urged senior engineers to keep continue writing books and articles to transfer their knowledge to young engineers. Chairman IEP Zafar Zuberi said the book was easy to read and understand. All engineers who have to deal with lubrication should have the book for understanding relation between the lubrication and performance of machines, he said.
