THE RUPEE: parity stable in interbank

Firm trend seen in the interbank market on Tuesday as the rupee maintained its overnight level against dollar for buying and selling at Rs 60.37 and Rs 60.39 respectively, dealers said.
Inflows of dollars helped the rupee to hold its level in terms of the US currency and it is likely the rupee may move both ways in the coming days, they said. In the world markets, dollar was lower in the New York and it also moved both ways in the Asian markets, they said.

According to the currency dealers, the dollar commenced trading at Monday's closing rates of Rs 60.85 and Rs 60.95 as its buying and selling rates, respectively. At the end of trading, the dollar further moved down and closed at Rs 60.80 and Rs 60.90 on buying and selling counters, respectively, the dealers added.
On the contrary, the local currency remained under pressure and lost its worth against the pound sterling. The British pound was purchased at Rs 123.60 and was sold at Rs 123.90 as compared to Rs 123.45 and Rs 123.75 of Monday, the dealers added.
The dollar opened at Rs 60.90 (buying) and Rs 61 (selling) against same last rate. It did not observe any change in the evening session and closed at Rs 60.90 (buying) and Rs 61 (selling).
Pound Sterling opened at Rs 123.30 (buying) and Rs 123.70 (selling) against same last rate. It did not observe any change in the evening session and closed at Rs 123.30 (buying) and Rs 123.70 (selling).
