LHC directs SSP to recover minors

19 Jul, 2007

The Lahore High Court has directed the SSP (operation) to produce twin minor daughters of a showbiz model Sofia Mirza on July 24 after recovering them from the custody of their father Umer Farooq. Earlier, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Factory Area police station had been directed to produce the minors but he failed.
On the occasion the counsel of Sofia Aftab Bajwa produced a copy of a legal notice sent to his client (Sofia Bajwa) by her husband in which he threatened her not to initiate case in court against him otherwise he would move a damages suit against her worth of Rs 2 million.
The notice has shown that the respondent was aware of court proceedings and intentionally avoiding appearing and producing the minors before the court. Sofia had married Umer Farooq and gone to Dubai with him. Later, she found out that Umer was already married and had three children as well, owing to this she decided to get separated from him and returned to Pakistan. She gave birth to twin daughters Zainab and Zunaira on June 7 in Pakistan.
On June 20, her husband came from Dubai and forcefully took the daughters away. Sofia, through a court order, got the names of her daughters placed on exit control list. Following which the airport authorities stopped her husband when he tried to take the twins to Dubai.
The counsel contended that twins desperately needed their mother, as they were only a few weeks old. He sought directions for police to recover the petitioner's twin daughters from the custody of her husband. The court after hearing her counsel at length issued necessary direction for the recovery of the minors.
