Former Chief Justice Saeeduzaman Siddiqui has said that the Supreme Court verdict in the Presidential reference against the Chief Justice has restored people's confidence in the judiciary.
In an interview with BBC he said as the full court has rejected the moral justification of the reference, there is no other way to be adopted for re-filing it against the sitting Chief Justice.
To a question whether the Chief Justice is entitled to hear the case of President's uniform, Saeeduzaman Siddiqui said that morally the Chief Justice may not hear the case involving President himself it is against the norms of the judiciary, keeping in view the intensity of the controversy.
To another query the former chief justice said this is the first-ever decision in 60-year history of the judiciary that may restore people's confidence. As such various complicated constitutional issues including President's uniform and his re-election from the present assemblies are likely to come up in various courts including the Supreme Court, he added.
To another question about the review of the presidential reference by the Supreme Court he said this case couldn't be filed because they (the full court) turned it down saying that there was no justification for this. If there is evidence against any other Chief Justice that he was involved in corruption or he did such acts as were not appropriate to his office reference can be filed against him as the Supreme Court has not given any opinion on this subject, he added.
