The National Assembly Standing Committee on Social Welfare and Special Education requested the chairperson, Bushra Rehman, to pursue Pakistan Senior Citizens Bill with the cabinet so that it may be passed by the National Assembly in its next session.
She assured she would make all out efforts for presentation of this bill in next session. The members supported Special Citizens Bill 2007 (Private member's Bill).
The Committee was informed by the representatives of the Ministry of Social Welfare and Special Education that the Pakistan Senior Citizen Bill has been prepared taking into account all private members' bills moved in the National Assembly and referred to the Standing Committee and submitted to the Cabinet for approval.
The Chairperson Bushra Rehman from ruling party presided over the meeting of the Social Welfare and Special Education Committee here on Monday in the Parliament House.
While discussing Special Citizens Welfare Bill 2007,the Director General Special Education informed the Committee that this bill introduced by Mehnaz Rafi from ruling party supplements the efforts of the government to expand the services for persons with disabilities in accordance with the provisions of the National Policy for Persons with Disabilities.
While taking into consideration the private member Pakistan Bait-ul-Maal (amendment) bill moved by MNA Rubina Shaheen Watto regarding provision of financial assistance to the parents to arrange the marriage of their daughters, the Managing Director Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal Brigadier (Retd) Sarfraz informed the Committee that Bait-ul-Mal is already running Individual Financial Assistance to Programme, therefore there is no need to amend the Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal Act. However, the Committee deferred the bill for the next meeting due to absence of the mover.
The meeting was attended by MNAs Hajra Tariq Aziz,Khurram Munawar ,Akram Masih Gill,Khwaja Sheraz Mehmood, Malik Zaheer Abbass Khokhar, Kaniz Aisha Munawar,Sayeda Farhana Khalid Banoori,Atta-ur-Rehman,Khalida Mohsin Ali Qureshi,Kishwar Sultanna.
The senior officers from Social Welfare and Special Education Ministry and Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal also attended the meeting along with the movers of the bill.
