26 Jul, 2007

President Supreme Court Bar Association Munir A. Malik has said that they will study the verdict of Supreme Court of Pakistan in detail and then decide to file a petition in apex court to block the re-election of President Musharraf from the outgoing assemblies.
Addressing lawyers of Hyderabad at District Bar office, in a programme organised by Hyderabad District Bar Association and High Court Bar Association Hyderabad here on Wednesday, he said they will also request SC to start hearing of ISI financial scam case, pending in the court since last four years.
He said the focus of lawyers now would be to end dictatorship from country and to restore democracy. He said the responsibilities of Supreme Court have now increased, adding the lawyers would also ensure through courts that the oath taken by army officers was being abided by them.
He said they would not see only affects of lawyers struggle of four and half months but also identify the causes of it. He said during their struggle the lawyers tried to create awareness among people about the justice and independent judiciary.
He said that the people were given awareness that an 8-year-old girl cannot be married off to an 80-year-old man. He said that people were told that the Gwadar port was not a personal property of any one whatever his status be, Pakistan Steel Mill cannot be sold at throwaway price and that when oil prices fall in international market why Pakistani consumers were deprived of the benefit.
Munir A Malik asked lawyers to keep vigilance on courts so that they could work independently and do not come under pressure of rulers.
He said any judge who thinks that he is government servant only couldn't provide justice. He said they want that every judge should be bold like Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry. He said that there was a need to change minds of judicial officers.
He said today judiciary is independent, but yet the lawyers have to further strengthen its hands. He lauded the recent Supreme Court verdict and said that it was first time that judiciary refused to be a B team of rulers and instead it proved that it was the peoples' judiciary. He said he was no more lawyer of CJP but rather his former lawyer.
Munir Malik said when we trace out causes of present crisis, the main fining is that all powers are vested with one individual. He said we have to bring improvement in civil and military bureaucracy. Life is a journey and not destination so we shall continue our struggle, he said.
