Punjab Chief Minister, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi on Wednesday said that no deal with PPP was in the offing. He said that Pakistan Muslim League (PML) remains the founder party of the country and had a democratic and ideological thinking therefore; there was no question of its electoral alliance with Pakistan Peoples Party, which was responsible for disintegration of the country.
He said that present assemblies would re-elect President General Pervez Musharraf and would also complete their constitutional term. He said that general elections would be held according to the schedule and in a fair, free and transparent manner.
He said that PML had emerged as a strong political force due to its public service and would contest the elections from its own platform on the basis of its performance and would give a crushing defeat to its political opponents. He stressed upon assembly members, Nazims, PML office-bearers and workers to sink their mutual differences and play their due rule for implementing the development agenda of the party.
He was addressing assembly members, Nazims and PML office-bearers of Khanewal district at Chief Minister's Secretariat, here on Wednesday. Minister of State for Overseas Pakistanis Mehr Raza Hayat Haraj, Minister of State for Trade Hamid Yar Haraj, Provincial Minister for Food Hussain Jahanian Gardezi, Minister for Finance Hasnain Bahadur Dreshak, District Nazim Khanewal Sardar Ahmad Yar Haraj, President PML Khanewal Pir Mukhtar Hussain Qureshi and Tehsil Nazim Mian Channu Pir Shujaat Husnain Qureshi were also present on the occasion.
Elahi said that PML government had undertaken a record number of development projects during the last four and a half-year. He said that Punjab government provided twelve percent more funds to southern Punjab than the ratio of population of the area for removing poverty, ignorance and backwardness from this region and this process of provision of extra development funds for the uplift of this area would continue.
He said that uplift projects worth of Rs 3.5 billion had been completed in Khanewal district whereas development schemes costing Rs 2 billion were also being implemented expeditiously in the area. He said that a number of projects for the development of health, education, agriculture, irrigation, water supply, sanitation and other sectors were also being completed.
He said that the reforms introduced in various government departments in the province had paved the way for socio-economic development of the people and a large number of employment opportunities had been generated due to which poverty rate had reduced substantially.
The Chief Minister said that PML government had been making practical efforts for the progress and welfare of the people. He said that PML possessed positive and constructive thinking and its leadership believed in solving issues through consultation with public representatives and party office-bearers. He said that there remained a need for setting aside mutual differences for defeating political rivals in the general elections.
He said that it was of paramount importance that PML should achieve a thumping victory in the forthcoming general elections so that the process of development and uplift of the masses should continue. He said that PML had always represented sentiments of the masses due to which it would win with a thumping majority in the elections.
