Bail before arrest of PPP workers extended

26 Jul, 2007

A bench of the Lahore High Court has extended bail before arrest of a local Pakistan People's Party's (PPP) leader and his three brothers in a kidnapping and terror case till August 9.
According to the detail the bench has also ordered Sukehki Police to present a case record, involving PPP leader Zulfiqar Nasir Ali Bhatti and his brothers Shahid Nawaz, Javed Nasir and Imran Nasir, filed by their rival party, the Pakistan Muslim League (PML).
The concerned Police Station House Officer appeared before the court and sought time. On the occasion the men's counsel told the court that dirty politics and rivalry had motivated the complaint against his client. The officer said the police had earlier recorded 15 cases against Bhatti and others but the evidence was insufficient.
He said they failed to move the bail application before the anti-terrorism court for security reasons, adding that the DPO concerned had also declared them innocent. The applicants were facing the charges of abducting Liaqat Ali, torturing him and demanding Rs 200,000 incurred in a cow-theft case lodged by Ali against the three accused men.
