The Petroleum Exploration (Pvt) Limited (PEL) has hired ''Spectrum'', an American company, for evaluation of the seismic data compiled from Khairpur, Sindh for oil and gas exploration and production. PEL will use the data to drill 16 developmental wells in Kandra mining lease area in 3 years
Sichuan Petroleum Administration (SPA) conducted the seismic survey utilising modern field processing units (Sercel 428). PEL, the operator of the block, on Thursday announced that it will utilise Kandra gas field for power generation.
The company is setting up a 60 MW power plant at Sukkur, utilising low BTU gas from its nearby Kandra gas field. For this venture, Frontier Holdings Ltd, a Canadian company, and PEL are partners. In Phase-2 the Company will enhance power generation to 120 MW by installing another unit of 60 MW.
The company has also awarded a contract to another Chinese company, Bureau of Geophysical Prospecting China ( BGP International), to carry out 2-D seismic survey of over 100 line KM in Badar mining lease. The company has completed over 200 line KM seismic survey. PEL has tasked Sichuan Petroleum Administration to carry out seismic survey in other PEL operated blocks which include Salam, Mirpur Mathelo, Badin North and Badin South.
PEL is presently producing 35 mmcfd gas from two concessions. It has an impressive portfolio of petroleum concessions that includes 5 development/production and mining leases. PEL is strictly adhering to the internationally accepted principles of health, safety and environment in all of its petroleum concession areas, mining/development leases and appraisal licence area.
It is pertinent to mention that PEL is first private sector Pakistani company that is venturing in the offshore exploration. It has been awarded 3 offshore blocks in the Exclusive Economic Zone of Pakistan located in ultra deep waters in Arabian Sea.
PEL has also to its credit as being the first private sector Pakistani energy company that is undertaking the overseas exploration in North Africa. PEL has an aggressive drilling programme of drilling 31 exploration and development wells in three years.
