Effective audit to ensure transparency: Prime Minister

Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has said that an effective audit function will ensure good governance and transparency in all government departments. The prime minister said this while talking to the newly appointed Auditor General of Pakistan, Tanvir Ali Agha, who called on him at the PM's House on Saturday.
He said that the government believes in excellence and transparency. He said audit is a good check and balance on the system so that government business is carried out in accordance with the rules and regulations. This improves governance and increases efficiency, he said.
He said the government wants to develop the audit function and improve its professionalism, as it is essential to ensure that government functions efficiently and is able to provide the benefits of its policies and decisions to the people.
Tanvir Agha said he is very conscious of his responsibilities and will do his utmost to build an effective audit function, which works in the interest of the country in a transparent and professional manner. He said new techniques would also be employed to further improve its functioning.
