Notices issued to TV channels for airing gory scenes

Notices have been issued to private TV channels for transmitting bloodshed and gory scene in violation of Code of Conduct, spokesman for Pemra said here on Saturday.
"Certain television channels have been transmitting gory images of corpses, dismembered and mutilated bodies, and bloodshed in reports on incidents of violence, including bomb blasts in the country.
These images have had a nerve shattering impact upon the common man particularly the vulnerable segments of society such as women, children, the feeble and aged persons," he said. The spokesman said the traumatic impact of these images have aroused unnecessary fear in the society and glorified terrorism.
"The members of public have urged the Pemra to take immediate action to stop the transmission of such gory images," the spokesman said. "In deference to the sentiments and sensitivities of the public and to ensure compliance of its code of ethics and conduct, Pemra has issued notices to the TV channels to stop transmitting gruesome scenes and images of violence and bloodshed and has warned the channels of stringent legal action.
In case of repeat violation of respective Pemra provisions, specified in the Ordinance, Code of Conduct and the license terms and conditions duly signed by the satellite TV licensees of Pemra," the spokesman added.
