Argentine 2006/07 wheat export commitments totalled 8.82 million tonnes by July 27, unchanged from a week earlier, the Agriculture Secretariat said in its latest weekly report. By the same date last year, Argentina, a top-five wheat exporter, had sold 7.215 million tonnes of the grain.
The US Department of Agriculture forecasts Argentine exports of 2006/07 wheat at 10.5 million tonnes. Farmers finished harvesting the 2006/07 wheat crop early this year and the government estimates the harvest at 14.6 million tonnes, up from 12.6 million tonnes in 2005/06. Argentina sells 13.505m tonnes corn.

By the same date last year, Argentina had sold 6.54 million tonnes of the grain. This data corresponds to the current corn harvest, which is close to ending. Argentina estimates the harvest at 22 million tonnes, while the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) forecasts the country's 2006/07 exports at 15.5 million tonnes.
