Rs 3.41 billion set aside for assisting poor

The Punjab government has sanctioned Rs 3.41 billion for assisting poor people during 2007-08. The Punjab Minister for Zakat and Ushr, Mian Khadim Hussain Wattoo, said on Thursday that out of Rs 3.41 billion, Rs 1225.360 million have been allocated for dearness allowance.
An amount of Rs 367.608 million for educational stipend (general), Rs 163.382 million to assist students of Deeni Madaris, RS. 122.536 million for Health Care (provincial).
Rs 81.690 million for social rehabilitation, Rs 81.690 million for marriage assistance, Rs 125 million as Eid grant, Rs 565.684 million for permanent rehabilitation scheme of Zakat and Rs 678.821 million towards technical education stipend. Hussain said that as per population ratio, the share of fund distributed to the provinces were 57.36% to Punjab. 23.71% for Sindh, 13.82% to NWFP, 5.11% to Balochistan and 0.75% to Northern Area.
