Partly Facetious: Bush's remaining targets

03 Aug, 2007

"So arms for peace?"
"No, arms are always touted to be for security."
"And that means war?"
"Not necessarily...arms are supposed to be a deterrent to war - that's been a long standing argument of all governments...and the Cold war epitomised that sort of thinking."
"I see, so the peaceful administration of Bush is furthering the cause of security and maybe peace by distributing arms to Saudi Arabia."
"As a deterrent to evil Iranian power...the only US enemy left in the region...and then there is Syria..."
"Hey, they just have to look at the people of the Middle East, with the exception of the Israelis perhaps, to realise that they have no friends amongst them - their friends are limited to a few hundred ie the ruling elite representative of non-democratic regimes."
"Ah yes. Anyway what the Americans don't like they label it as downright evil."
"Right, but Condi Rice denied that the $20 billion arms deal with Saudi Arabia is to be used against Iran."
"And the US is going to give Israel arms to ensure they don't get upset."
"But they are already well armed."
"They must have superior arms to any Arab country."
"Ah I see."
"But Condi's denial means nothing."
"She must first get her own people to believe in her neoconservative strategy."
"I think the Bush administration has given up on the American people - let's get our agenda on the road - what they are thinking."
"Attack Iran and time permitting attack Syria."
"Time permitting?"
"Bush has less than two years to go now."
"Ah yes."
"There are isolated pockets of resistance to US power - Syria, Iran, Cuba, Hugo Chavez..."
"You talk as if this is about conquering the world."
"And, it isn't?"
"I guess."
