Pakistan and India agree to free fishermen

04 Aug, 2007

Pakistani and Indian authorities have agreed to release at least 60 fishermen imprisoned in the two countries for poaching in each other's territorial waters, a senior official said Friday.
"The two countries have reached a broad agreement according to which Pakistan will release 48 Indian fishermen and India will release 12 of our citizens," Geo News reported quoting a senior official. Pakistan released 50 Indian fishermen last month, a day after India released 43 Pakistanis.
"The release of the two countries' fishermen is a gesture of goodwill," said the official, adding they would be released on August 12 and exchanged the following day at the Wagah border crossing.
