"Living donors should be recognised for their supreme act of altruism on national level", said the President Elect of Transplantation Society of Pakistan Dr Adib Rizvi.
In a press release issued by the society on Friday, he extended thanks to the Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz and his cabinet for approving and promulgating of "Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues Ordinance 2007".
The society specially thanked the Senior Advisor to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs and Law Justice and Human Rights, Syed Sharifuddin Pirzada, and Federal Minister of Health, Muhammad Nasir Khan.
He also appreciated Prime Minister's desire that the process of transplant of human organs had to be regulated to eliminate exploitation of the poor and helpless. Rizvi praised the government for approving the bill that had been pending for the last 15 years.
Rizvi also showed confidence in inter-ministerial committee comprising Advisor to Prime Minister, Sharifuddin Pirzada, Health Minister, Nasir Khan, Law Minister Wasi Zafar and Minister for Ports, Shipping and Housing, Babar Ghouri, for refining the text of the draft law.In order to promote organ donation from family members, the living donors should be provided with health insurance and employment by the Government, suggested he.
While explaining the aim of the society, it was emphasised that reasonable fund should be raised by the government for the indigent patients to be used for their post transplant care and medication.-PR
