AJK President Raja Zulqarnain Khan has said that after devastated earthquake of October 8, 2005, untiring and timely rescue and relief provided by national, international NGOs and UN agencies enabled us to move towards the normal life within short span of time.
He said this while addressing as a chief guest to a launching ceremony of District Disaster Risk Management Plan (DDRMP) by UNDP in Planning and Development committee room here on Thursday. The ceremony was organised by UNDP while the District Disaster Risk Management Plan has been prepared by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) for the four quake hit districts of Azad Kashmir.
AJK President said that almost two million people were badly affected by October 8, 2005 devastated Earthquake and it also struck the state infrastructure, however the timely rescue and relief provided by national, international NGOs and UN agencies enabled us to move towards the normal life.
The ceremony was attended by Deputy Chairman ERRA Major General Nadeem Ahmed, AJK Chief Secretary Major (Retd) Javed Majeed, Secretary Local Government and Focal person of Disaster Management Program Sardar Muhammad Nawaz Khan, UNDP representative Zafar Iqbal whereas the secretaries of different departments were also present on the occasion.
