Vice Chancellor Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences (LUMHS) Professor Noushad Ahmed Shaikh has said that the government has launched different multi-dimensional health projects for the betterment of health of the people.
However, he added, in view of low literacy rate building of mass awareness was very essential to motivate people to avail the benefits and follow the guidelines and also to make these projects more successful.
He was addressing as chief guest at a one-day seminar on "Iodine Deficiency" organised through National Programme for Family Planning and Primary Health Care Sindh, Lady Health Workers Programme and UNICEF Sindh at a hotel here on Saturday.
He said care is better than cure. So we have to invest more for taking preventive measures to reduce the financial burden of the government being incurred on curative programmes and keep the nation healthy through their lifestyle.
Dr Naushad said it is surprising to know that more than 60 percent population of the province was not using iodine salt because of non-awareness. He said all the salt factories, producing salt without iodine must be encouraged and made bound to produce salt with iodine. Besides, building of awareness about breast-feeding must be accelerated with a view to avoid deficiencies in children and mothers, LUMHS Vice-Chancellor said.
