Toyota Motor Corp expects group output, including two key affiliates, to top 10 million vehicles in 2008 amid increasing demand in North America and emerging markets, a report said on August 07.
Toyota has told parts suppliers that its global production, including the output of small car specialist Daihatsu Motor and truck maker Hino Motors, is expected to reach about 10.4 units next year, the Nikkei business daily said without naming its sources.
Toyota has set a production target of 9.42 million vehicles for 2007 including the two affiliates, up from 9.02 million in 2006.
A Toyota spokesman declined to comment on the reported 2008 target.
Toyota, which is on track to overtake US rival General Motors this year as the world's top selling automaker, expects to expand sales in North America and emerging markets like China, the report noted.
It said Toyota would begin operations at its second plant in Canada in 2008, with annual production of multi-purpose sports utility vehicles (SUV) expected to reach 150,000, the newspaper said. At a Fuji Heavy Industries plant in the US state of Indiana, full production of the Toyota Camry will get underway later this year, it added.
