Wapda directed to start remodelling of RBOD

Federal Minister for Water and Power Liaquat Ali Khan Jatoi has directed the authorities of water wing of Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) to start remodelling of Right Bank Outfall Drain Project (RBOD) to enhance the disposal capacity of effluent water from six thousand cusecs to eight thousand cusecs.
The minister issued the directives at a briefing regarding the progress of RBOD Phase-I Project. The Manager Water Wapda Chaudhry Mushtaq and General Manager Water Wapda Brigadier Muhammad Iqbal briefed the minister about ongoing work on the project.
The minister said that he would approach Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz for the grant of additional Rs 1.2 billion for remodelling of RBOD Project, ploughing of cuts of RBOD Canal, improvement of Satrih Lake and Rahri Canal.
The minister also directed the digging out of a channel right from RBOD Canal to river Indus so that the level of water of Manchar Lake could be controlled, which increases to danger point whenever rainwater from Kheerthar Range of mountains enters into the lake.
The minister was informed that remodelling of RBOD Project would cost Rs 743 million while the improvement of Satrih Lake is estimated to cost Rs 340 million. Similarly, Rs 137 million are required for ploughing the 25 cuts of RBOD Canal that made tens of thousand people of the district homeless during the recent flood.
