The executive committee of Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) on Thursday passed a unanimous resolution condemning growing lawlessness in district Swat and terrorist incidents at tourist resort.
Through the resolution the chamber also demanded of both federal and provincial governments to provide protection to the business community of Swat and hotel industry of the district and establishment of effective security system for the tourists visiting the area.
The resolution was passed in the executive committee meeting with president, Liaquat Ahmad Khan in the chair. Those attended were included Haji Muhammad Asif, Ahmad Khan, Zia-ul-Haq Sarhadi, Muhammad Arshad Siddiqui, Shahid Munir, Mian Iftikhar Hussain, Mian Muhammad Akhtar, Khurram Shiraz, Muhammad Nawaz Khan, Muhammad Amin Mohmand, Zahidullah Shinwari and chairman SCCI standing committee on finance, Mir Suhail Hashmat.
The executive committee of one of the top prime trade bodies was informed that every year law and order situation in Swat deteriorates with the beginning of the tourists' season in the area. The terror incidents in the valley bring business activities into standstill leaving the business community in quandary due to the lack of security in the district. The meeting said that the situation has adversely affected the profitable hotel industry in the district.
The meeting demanded of both federal and provincial governments to take measures for bringing improvement in the law and order situation in the tourist attractive district of the province. The executive committee also approved the SCCI annual budget for financial year 2007-08.
The meeting was told about the self-proclaimed increase in the fares of Pakistan Railways and National Logistic Cell (NLC) adversely affecting the national exports. The meeting also appreciated the role of Export Trophy Award Committee for holding successful event for the distribution of awards.
