Afghanistan team turned up late but was included in the draws for the 3rd National Women Football Championship on Friday. Afghan team has been inducted in Group D of the preliminary round and will play its first match against Diya FC on Saturday morning, said Chief Organiser Dr Fazal-ur-Rehman who is also President of Pakistan Football Federation.
Three matches were decided while one was drawn on the second day of the championship on Friday. In the afternoon matches, Balochistan beat Lahore Women FC. It was their second victory after beating Sindh Red on the opening day on Thursday.
In another match, Sports Science Club of Lahore thrashed Mardan while Diya FC beat Rising Club Blue and Pak Punjab held Wapda to a goalless draw. The following are the pools of the preliminary round: - Balochistan, Sindh Red and Lahore Women FC (Pool A), Wapda, Pak Punjab FC and Higher Education Commission (B), Islamabad, Sports Sciences Club of Lahore, Mardan FC and Rising Star Red (C), Pilot FC, Diya FC, Rising Star Blues and Afghanistan (D).
Two teams from each pool will qualify for the quarter-finals of the championship which concludes on August 24. On Saturday afternoon, Rising Star Reds will play Mardan FC, Sindh Red will be pitted against Lahore Women FC, kickoff for both matches at 5.00 pm, while Wapda will take on HEC (7.30 pm).
