The Provincial Zakat Council has dismissed Jhang's Zakat Committee member over his affiliation with a political party. The decision to sack Mazhar Hussain Khokhar came in a council meeting chaired by its Chairman, Muhammad Akram Baittu.
The council acted under Section 16 of the Zakat and Ushr Ordinance saying anyone being engaged in political activities cannot be a chairman or member of any Zakat Committee. Khokhar, a local Zakat Committee member, was equally enjoying the status of general secretary of a political party.
