Chairman Senate Foreign Relations Committee Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed on Friday, presenting Foreign Relation's Committee's report on Nato's role in Afghanistan, said that the Committee has asked the Nato to review its policy of exclusive reliance on military option and adopt political ways to ensure peace and security in the region.
Mushahid said, "Nato should review its policies towards Afghanistan particularly re-evaluate its exclusive reliance on military option." He emphasised on the need for adopting political negotiations to resolve the Afghan issue and maintain peace.
Highlighting salient features of the report, Senator Mushahid said that the committee had also presented the demand to review Nato's policy towards Afghanistan during its meeting with Nato Parliament held in Brussels.
Senator Mushahid said Committee also highlighted the indiscriminate bombing of Nato, which resulted in civilian causalities in Afghanistan and Pakistan. He said the Committee also urged compensation from Nato for civilian loss which the Secretary General of Nato promised to consider it.
The Chairman Senate Foreign Relations Committee said the report of the Committee on Nato's role in Afghanistan was based on the first ever visit of the Nato's delegation to Pakistan on the invitation of Committee. Mushahid said in last 40 months, since its inception in April 2004, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee issued 20 reports on important subjects of foreign affairs.
