NAB restricts its probe only to BSGC

In connection with sales tax return and refund cases, National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has decided to limit its investigation to Bawan Shah Group of Company (BSGC) rather than other exporters. A highly placed source at sales tax refund office told Business Recorder here on Wednesday that NAB has decided to restrict its probe only to BSGC.
Earlier, NAB had dispatched a list of several business units to Sales Tax House to provide information relating to their return and refund cases for further investigation, he added.
He said that sales tax authorities had handed over all the files about refund and return cases of all business units, which had been asked for investigation by NAB.
Now NAB authorities were impressing upon STH collector to collect all the files by Wednesday but due to shortage of staff, STH could not get the files, he added.
Although these exporters are following all sales tax refund rules and regulations to export goods, the clerical staff fears to process refund and return cases of these exporters because NAB may interrogate all of them shortly, he said.
As a result, the clerical staff is only receiving return and refunds files on receiving counters, however their further process has been stopped for NAB investigation, he added.
He said that exporters were also supporting taxmen and not pressurising them to process refund cases immediately. NAB's decision to roll back its investigation and limit it only to BSGC will help relieve the feared exporters, who contribute huge amount to national exchequer.
These exporters provide employment to domestic workers, he said and added they would also help to normalise the present tense situation in sales tax office.
