Wapda union demand raise in drivers pay-scale

The Wapda Central Labour Union (CLU) demanded the upgrade of Wapda workers' pay scales during protest on Wednesday. The union protested against the upsurge in prices of essentials and demanded the upgrade of pay scales of meter readers.
Drawing men, bill distributors, drivers, linemen, stenographers and line superintendent staff as well as workers of revenue, audits, accounts, grid, power house and M & T departments of Wapda.
General Secretary Khurshid Ahmed and Haji Ahmed Latif Khan demanded repeal of 'anti-labour legislation' including Industrial Relation Ordinance of 2002. They said the labour related laws should be brought into conformity with International Labour Organisation conventions ratified by the government of Pakistan.
Labour laws should be enforced through independent labour inspection, they said, and new hydroelectric and thermal power stations should be built to increase power generation capacity of Wapda and to overcome power shortage.
