District Nazim Mian Amer Mahmood has ordered finalising provision of 25,000 desk benches to the government schools of the city before the commencement of new academic session within the next five days. He was chairing a meeting the review performance of various departments of the City District Government Lahore here on Thursday.
District Co-ordination Officer Muhammad Ijaz, District Naib Nazim Muhamamd Idrees Hanif, SSP traffic Ghulam Mahmood Dogar and Executive District Officers of all the departments participated in the meeting.
Mian Amer Mahmood directed for carrying out inspection of the furniture during the manufacturing process with a view to ensuring its assembling according to the approved specification. "Only up-to-the mark furniture should be picked up from these workshops for supplying to the schools besides initiating legal proceedings against the firm that had violated terms and conditions of the contract in this regard," he ordered.
The District Nazim directed for identifying a suitable piece of land, measuring up to 10 kanals, for setting up gymnasium for the youth in the city. He asked for chalking out a comprehensive schedule for holding sports activities at district level during a year as well as for providing grant to the district sports department on events basis.
He also directed for constituting a five-member committee for monitoring disbursement of 12 instalment of Food Support Programme in the city. The meeting was informed that the vacuum mechanical sweeper, that has been imported from Australia, at a cost of Rs 9.4 million, for cleansing city roads, has started operation on experimental basis and very soon another such machine would also be purchased for this purpose.
The District Nazim asked traffic police for joining hands with the district government officials in campaign against over-loaded sand carrying trolleys. He ordered for setting up checkpoints at the 12 entries of the city for discouraging movement of such trolleys.
The meeting was told that construction of waste enclosures at 12 places in the city had been completed which had been build at GOR 1, 2 and 3, Govt College for Women Samanabad, Lorry Adda and other places in the city.
