THE RUPEE: minor changes versus dollar

26 Aug, 2007

Minor changes were seen in the interbank market at the weekend, showing one paisa gain against dollar for buying and selling at Rs 60.66 and Rs 60.60.68, currency analysts said. The rupee did not show significant variation versus dollar due to comparatively low demand by small investors.
The rupee, however, may tumble if the demand increases for dollars, they added. In the world markets dollar trimmed losses against euro and yen during the final session after a US government report showed orders for durable goods for July came in much higher than expected. The euro pared gains against dollar to $1.3601 from $1.3615 before the data. Against yen, the dollar cut losses to 116.30 from 115.75 yen just before.
The rupee, however, lost 58 paisa against euro for buying and selling at Rs 82.73 and Rs 82.85 though single European currency fell versus dollar in the globe, they said.
