PSA activist succumbs to injuries

An activist of Punjabi Students Association (PSA), belonging to Jamia Millia College Malir, who was injured in a clash at Jinnah Postgraduate medical Center (JPMC) succumbed to injuries in police custody here on Tuesday.
The deceased Saleem Awan sustained injuries on August 25 in a clash with another student organisation Islami Jamiat Talba (IJT). Two students of JPMC and also the activists of IJT were died in clashes during last ten days of student unrest. According to details Saleem Awan, student of Jamia Millia College Malir was injured in a clash between IJT and PSA at JPMC and was rushed to civil hospital for treatment where he had been arrested.
Hospital sources told Business Recorder that after three days Saleem Awan died of serious injuries in police custody, although he was in the hospital, with his hands were cuffed. Spokesman of PSA Raja Tauqeer said that Namaz-e-Janaza was offered at Azeem Pura, Green Town and deceased was a native of Sialkot.
On the other hand, Vice Chairman of PSA, Choudhary Abid Gujjar, addressing a press conference at Karachi press club claimed that deceased was injured by the firing of IJT's activists.
He said that on August 25 several PSA activists went to JPMC on vehicles and motorcycles for continuing educational activities but IJT activists opened fire in which two activists of PSA were injured. Gujjar demanded federal government to arrest Syed Abdul Rasheed, Nazim Islami Jamiat Talba Karachi and warned that government would be responsible for the situation.
