Call to form new political alliance

03 Sep, 2007

Leaders of progressive and leftists parties have underlined here on Sunday the need of constitution of a new political alliance, which should focus on the problems and issues being faced by oppressed nations and labour class of the country and struggle for their solution.
The call was made during a meeting of 'progressive forces' of Multan which included on Communist Mazdoor Kisan Party (CMKP), Labour Party of Pakistan (LPP), Communist Party Pakistan (CPP) and others. The meeting was addressed by CMKP leader Mehfooz Khan Shujaat, Suhail Javed of LPP, Irfan Haider Shamsi of CPP and others.
The meeting decided to hold a convention in connection of the formation of the proposed alliance. Government's decision to file a reference against the chief justice was a wrong and highly condemnable step and the people of the country had rightly supported the struggle for his reinstatement, they noted.
They said people would never accept martial law or emergency, adding that the political parties should refrain from supporting the military ruler.
If General Musharraf wants to contest the presidential election, he should doff uniform first, they urged.
The leaders said that the proposed alliance must refrain from power politics and restore people's rule by eliminating the military interference in politics.
