Four out of five neonates expired

03 Sep, 2007

Four out of five newly born babies expired in 24 hours and doctors are trying to save the life of fifth baby who is stated to be in precarious condition.
Dr Mudassar Saeed, child specialist of DHQ Hospital Bahawalnagar said, "It was premature delivery and weight of babies was less than the minimum standard. We kept them in incubators but four babies could not survive." A young mother Rehana Bibi (30) was married in January, 2007 and she gave birth to five babies - three boys and two girls - in Chishtian Civil Hospital.
However it was normal delivery and babies can be saved but there was no proper arrangement in the hospital to keep them in incubators at Chishtian.
When they were being shifted to Bahawalpur they expired, said gynaecologist Dr Nasira Tariq and child specialist Dr Waheed Anwar. "They were doing well," Dr Nasira Tariq said.
