The computerisation of Sindh Revenue Department's record has started at a cost of Rs 600 million. Highly placed sources in the department told Business Recorder here on Monday that the Sindh government had approved Rs 432 million for computerisation programme of Revenue Collection Assessment and Accounting System with special emphasis on ownership title through revenue management information system.
About Rs 148 million has been earmarked for presentation of record in Directorate of Survey Settlement & Lands Record by scanning Micro Filming processing and digitalisation of maps while Rs 21 million are allocated for automation of stamps and registration. The sources said that the project would take at least three to four years time period to be completely accomplished.
By the end of fiscal year 2007-08, only one fourth of work could be completed to convert the files into digital format as only Rs 50 million has been allocated during the current year for this purpose, they added.
The sources said that a high level meeting of the department was held on August 28, 2007 under the chairmanship of the Sindh Revenue Minister Irfan Gul Magsi regarding the computerisation of the record. Member Board of Revenue (Research & Support) Muhammad Younus Dhaga gave a detailed presentation about computerisation of revenue record and digital survey.
They said for the first time in the history of Revenue department work had been started on digitalisation of revenue record under a well-conceived planning. Over 600 million would be spent on the map digitalisation and full computerisation of the record, they said and added that the project would not only facilitate the officials concerned in accessing the record but also the public. It may be pointed out that the project remained in doldrums over last seven years causing immense difficulties in the working of department.
