Punjab Government has decided to establish an independent authority to control, manage and operate the proposed rail-based mass transit systems in major cities of the province.
According to official sources, the Lahore Rapid Mass Transit System (LRMTS) being first of such ventures would comprise an integrated strategic network of four lines about 97 km long with 82 stations.
"Provincial Government will shortly appoint an internationally recognised law firm, which was fully conversant with drafting of legal statutes and comprised a strong team of competent lawyers having wide experience in evolving regulatory framework preferably for infrastructure projects including legal facilitation and land acquisition," they said. The firm would prepare proposals for legislation for necessary institutional structuring and legal provisions for the proposed Authority, the added.
