Top agriculture scientists will ask the government to allocate more funds for research and give professionals better pays and facilities to help enhance the quality of agri research.
At the meeting of Pakistan Agriculture Research Council's (Parc) board of governors scheduled here for Wednesday, scientists will also ponder upon how to co-ordinate with farmers to motivate them for taking advantage of modern research and technology.
Due to be presided over by Federal Minister for Food, Agriculture and Livestock (Minfal) Sikandar Hayat Khan Bosan, the meeting will take up agri research projects for the next year. The Parc is Pakistan's premier agri research facility based in Islamabad and having field offices all over the country. It works under the food ministry.
Its board of governors (BoGs) is composed of senior officials of the ministries of food and finance, the planning commission of Pakistan, the vice chancellors of the agricultural universities of the provinces, progressive farmers and senior scientists of Parc. It meets once a year to undertake projects relating to agriculture research.
