Minister for Health, Muhammad Nasir Khan would launch a free eye camp at Tehsil Headquarters Hospital, Murree on Tuesday. The eye camp, being organised under the auspices of National Programme for Prevention and Control of Blindness in collaboration with College of Ophthalmology and Allied Vision Sciences, Lahore would continue till September 10.
A team of expert ophthalmologists will conduct minor surgeries on the spot or refer the patients to major eye hospitals. The purpose of the camp is to create awareness, highlighting prevention and care tips about various eye disease, said Professor Dr Asad Aslam Khan, Principal of College of Ophthalmology and Allied Vision Sciences, Lahore.
During this camp, the team of doctors will also visit all middle schools of Tehsil Murree to screen children for any eye problems, Professor Asad added. Experts in the field of ophthalmology like Dr Ismatullah Chaudhry, Dr Imran Ahmed.
Dr Ashat Pal, Dr Tahir Mahmood Khan, Dr Abid, Sajjad Ali Shah, Liaquat Ali, Nazir Ahmed, Mohammad Shafique and Muhammad Azam would provide services at the eye camp. In Pakistan, the prevalence of visual impairment is on the rise and if steps are not taken, the prevalence could double in the next 20 years.
