PRCS Fata chapter launched to help tribesmen in calamity

The Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS), Fata chapter, has been launched to help the tribesmen in the wake of any natural calamity and disastrous situation with its headquarter along with a warehouse in Peshawar.
For the time being, the items of emergency needs; including blankets, tents, quilts for 500 families have been made available in the newly established headquarter, while the items of the similar nature for another 1,000 families are available in the PRCS head office, Islamabad.
This was told to NWFP Governor Lieutenant General Ali Muhammad Jan Aurakzai (retd) at a briefing on the progress made so far, for launching of the Fata Chapter of PRCS at the Governor's House here on Thursday. Secretary to Governor Azmat Hanif was also present on this occasion, while Dr Rafiullah Orakzai, chairman, Fata Chapter of PRCS, and Wing Commander Gohar Javed and Dr Maheen, Medical Coordinator of PRCS, Islamabad briefed the Governor on the task.
Talking on the occasion, the governor desired to hold a coordination conference of the representatives of all the relevant departments and organisation within a fortnight to enable the Fata Chapter of PRCS to work efficiently in all the tribal agencies and Frontier regions.
The governor, in his address, desired that the boy scouts and girl guides from NWFP and Fata should be associated with the activities of Red Crescent in Fata. Appreciating the arrangements of immediate nature, made in making the Fata Chapter of PRCS functional, the governor further ordered to provide a piece of land; measuring four-kanal at Shah Kas in Khyber Agency for establishment of permanent headquarter of the organisation and release of Rs 5 million for PRCS Fata.
Referring to the working of the Society, the governor desired, it should work in close association and under the direct supervision of political authorities and the relevant staff should be recruited from the respective areas, purely on merit basis.
Indeed, he said, there is dire need to educate the people about the importance of clean drinking water, better nutrition and timely and proper treatment; in ensuring better health care and boy scouts and girl guides could prove of great help in this respect. He directed that construction of a permanent headquarter along with a warehouse of the Society should be started at the earliest.
