Taiwan's United Microelectronics Corp (UMC) said Friday its sales rose 3.78 percent in August to 10.43 billion Taiwan dollars (316 million US) from 10.05 billion dollars in July. The August sales were up 10.8 percent year-on-year, the world's second largest contract microchip manufacturer said.
It said sales for the first eight months of the year amounted to 68.61 billion dollars, down 0.21 percent from the year-earlier period, UMC said. Stopping short of directly forecasting sales for the third quarter to September, UMC said at an August 1 investor conference that wafer shipments are expected to rise by 20 percent from the second quarter. The company also expects its third-quarter average selling price (ASP) to remain flat in US dollar terms.
Sales for the second quarter totalled 25.10 billion dollars, up from 23.03 billion dollars in the preceding quarter but down from 25.75 billion dollars a year earlier.
