A five-day workshop on "Advance training on election reporting" started here on Saturday for print journalists to educate voters through media by creating awareness on electoral, political and legislative issues. The workshop has been organised by Intermedia in collaboration with British High Commission.
Intermedia recently conducted a series of training workshops on issue-based media coverage of elections for journalists from across the country working with newspapers, news agencies and magazines in Quetta, Karachi, Murree and Nathiagali.
The current workshop is the second phase of recently held workshops, while 35 selected journalists from the four trainings are attending the current programme.
The objective of the training is the capacity building of Pakistani media persons to improve reporting of election issues, as a means of increasing awareness of political, electoral and legislative issues and educating the voters through media, Project Manager Ali Khan told newsmen.
Senior journalists, political analysts and election monitoring experts will be supervising sessions of the workshop in which field activities like visits to different constituencies, election commission and other activities are also included.
Issue-based coverage incorporating electoral processes, monitoring of elections, the role of the Election Commission, government, political parties and other democratic institutions would be discussed in detail during the workshop.
