'Struggle to continue till Musharraf's ouster'

12 Sep, 2007

The All Pakistan Democratic Movement (APDM) reiterated its resolve to continue struggle till the ouster of military dictator, President General Musharraf, independence of judiciary, supremacy of Constitution and restoration of democracy in the country.
The resolve was expressed by central and provincial leadership of the opposition alliance, APDM, while addressing a rally here on Tuesday against the forced deportation of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif to Jeddah after brief stay at Islamabad Airport.
The protestors carrying flags of their respective political parties, including the Awami National Party (ANP), Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PMAP), Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), Jamiat Ulema Islam (F), Tehrik-e-Insaf and Pakistan Muslim League-N chanted slogans against the military government.
The activist of ANP, PMAP and PTI gathered at Soekarno Square and then marched towards Kabuli Chowk where the procession of JUI and JI also joined them. A procession of PML-N led by its provincial president Pir Sabir Shah also reached Kabuli Chowk and later they jointly moved towards Chowk Yadgar venue of the public meeting.
The participants unanimously supported a resolution by raising their hands condemning the forced exile of PML-N chief Nawaz Shairf, arrest of the APDM leaders and reiterated to continue struggle till the removal of the rulers and restoration of democracy in the country.
APDM Acting President Haji Ghulam Ahmad Bilour observed that Nawaz Sharif was coming to his own country after seven years exile in light of an historic verdict of the Supreme Court of Pakistan. But, generals afraid of a citizen blocked his entry to Pakistan and once again sent him on forced exile to Saudi Arabia. President Musharraf, he alleged, has usurped power illegally from the elected prime minister.
Haji Bilour said the opposition parties with different ideologies in APDM were not ready to accept the army role in politics and dictatorship. He said the people achieved the country after rendering great sacrifices. He said that only the 160 million population of the country has the right to rule it. He asked the people to be prepared for sacrifices and bringing more people with them for success of their movement.
