A serious injury to Sussex bowler Rana Naved-ul-Hasan suspended play for 45 minutes in the Division One match against Durham at the Riverside on Wednesday. The 29-year-old Pakistani player injured himself diving to try to stop a boundary, with Durham 233-2 in reply to Sussex's 291.
He was taken to hospital by ambulance. It is feared he may have suffered a dislocation and will not play again for Sussex this season. "Chasing full tilt along the rope, Rana dived for the ball and landed extremely awkwardly," said a statement on ther Sussex website.
"Due to the nature of the injury, the outstretched arm was unable to be moved and a large ambulance was called for. This added to the delay which eventually totalled around 45 minutes.
"At this early stage - without medical confirmation - it would seem there is a dislocation and fracture to the shoulder, but it is unclear as to how this has affected the collar bone and surrounding area." Naved is due to leave the county at the end of the season because only one overseas player will be allowed next season and Sussex have re-signed spinner Mushtaq Ahmed.
