1,100 one-wheelers fined during last six weeks

More than 1,100 young one-wheelers and speedsters were fined during the last six weeks and challan tickets amounting to Rs 600,000 were issued to them, it was officially learnt here on Thursday.
The motorcyclists from the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad at weekend play stunts like one-wheeling on roads in the capital and race their motorbikes at the risk of their own lives. Special teams of Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) have been constituted following the directive of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Traffic, Zubair Hashmi.
During the last six weeks, as many as 1,100 motorcyclists were fined and most of them had to face detention in the police stations till their bail from a court of law.
The SSP has expressed his commitment to eliminate this practice through strict monitoring and action as authorised by law. The parents of such motorcyclists and speedsters are also called in the police stations and their children are sometimes released after assurance by them that their children would not be involved in such practices in future. Meanwhile, the ITP sources said four help units are being set up in each zone for the assistance of road-users.
