National Assembly Standing Committee on Petroleum Dr Noor Jahan Panezai ruled on Monday that Pakistan State Oil must provide level-playing field to all contractors registered for maintenance work.
The ruling came in the committee meeting on Monday during which it detected irregularity in awarding PSO cleaning and maintenance operations contract of four separate divisions to one and the same contractor, ignoring others who fulfilled the eligibility criterion.
In addition, the Committee adopted contents of the report on prevailing cases of irregularities and mismanagement within the PSO and this would be sent to Speaker Chaudhry Amir Hussain, and subsequently it would be laid before the House.
A sub-committee of the Standing Committee had prepared this report. The Committee also held prolonged discussions engaged on the Saindak metals project under the supervision of Chinese engineers in Balochistan. The meeting was briefed on Saindak deposits that include copper, onyx marble, sulphur, iron and granite.
Presently, Saindak Metal Limited (SML) had been established with the Chinese Metallurgical Construction Corporation (MCC) at a cost of Rs 11,230 million. The project is expected to yield for 19 years an average annual production of copper (15,810 tonnes), gold (1.47 tonnes) and silver (2.76 tonnes), available for exports. Besides, 40,000 tonnes of Sulphuric Acid could be generated from fuel gases present in the Saindak area.
