Wapda's outgoing chief calls on Shaukat

Outgoing chairman Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) Tariq Hameed paid a farewell call on Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz at the PM House on Monday. He said that because of rapid economic growth, demand for electricity in the country was increasing and several new projects were underway to overcome the shortage.
The Prime Minister said that with the distribution of responsibilities between Wapda and Pakistan Electric Power Company (Pepco), the water and power sectors would be streamlined and their efficiency would improve.
He said Pepco would be responsible for the generation, transmission and distribution of electricity while Wapda would focus on matters relating to hydel projects, water and dams, he added. The Prime Minister appreciated the steps taken by Tariq Hameed for the uplift of Wapda, especially the rural electrification and wished him success in future.
The Prime Minister also greeted the new management - Shakeel Durrani of Wapda and Munawwar Baseer of Pepco in making sure that the working of water and power sectors continue to improve. Tariq Hameed expressed his gratitude to the President and the Prime Minister for the support and guidance provided to him during his tenure in office.
