Mexican private spending rose 4.6 percent in the second quarter compared with the year-ago period, the finance ministry said on Monday. Aggregate demand - which includes private and government demand, gross fixed investment and exports - was up 4.2 percent in the April-June period from the same quarter last year, the government said.
It said public spending fell 1.6 percent compared with the same period last year. The data followed figures published earlier in the year showing gross domestic product grew 2.8 percent in the second quarter over the year-ago period. Mexico's economy grew 4.8 percent last year but is widely seen expanding by about 3 percent this year due to a slowdown in the United States.
